Budget travel

Whether you want to tighten the purse strings to save money or are simply keen to avoid being stung with unnecessary expenses when travelling, you’ll find plenty of ways to holiday on a budget. And that shouldn’t mean lowering standards or expectations. Being savvy around how to travel, when to go, and what to do when will all add to your pot of spending money.
Most money saving comes down to the planning you put in beforehand. Price comparison sites are the best place to start and tricks such as doing your research in incognito mode will ensure you’re shown the cheapest prices for flights and trains. Think about which elements of your trip you’re willing to scrimp on and focus on how to do these as cheaply as possible; if you won’t be spending much time at your hotel, take a look at home stays and hostels; consider avoiding the crowds and the price tags that come with capitals and opt for underrated second cities instead; and question if you can pack smarter to avoid the need to pay for luggage.
